Obituary

Susan (Wholey) Field, 71, of Tewksbury passed away on March 14 surrounded by her husband and children. She was born in Methuen MA on April 26, 1942, daughter of William R. and Agnes (McNulty) Wholey. Susan graduated from Abbot Academy (now Phillips Academy) in 1959 where she was elected to The Cum Laude Society in recognition of meritorious attainments. She was one of the first to be honored with early acceptance at Wellesley College, and went on to graduate as a Wellesley Scholar in 1963 with a major in mathematics. After graduation Susan was an engineer for New England Telephone and Telegraph, and in 1964 she married Marshall Field. Susan was involved in numerous volunteer and charitable organizations, most notably the seven years she spent as the first female Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Pike School in Andover, Massachusetts.
Susan is survived her husband of fifty years, Attorney Marshall L. Field, a son, Eldred L. Field II, a daughter, Hilary W. Munroe, and her husband Daniel Munroe, grandchildren Derek F. Munroe, Jamie T. Munroe, and Dylan S. Munroe, a brother William R. Wholey Jr., and brother-in-law, Gardner R. Field.
At the request of the Field family, funeral services will be private. Memorial contributions in Susan’s honor may be made to the MSPCA 400 Broadway Methuen MA 01844.
