Eugene P. O’Shea, age 90, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2014 surrounded by his family at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. He was born in Cahirciveen, County Kerry, Ireland on Jan. 7, 1924 to the late Michael and Nora (McCarthy) Shea. He served in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Anne Arundel and USS Zircon. He was a communicant of the former St Patrick's Church in Chicopee. Eugene was retired from the Chicopee Fire Department after 28 years of service. Eugene was an avid Red Sox and Notre Dame Football fan; he enjoyed traveling and also had a keen interest in the breeding and training of Beagle Hounds. Eugene was also a member of the Mass Retired Police and Fire Fighter Association. He leaves his loving wife of 61 years, Cecilia O’Shea of Wilbraham; three sons, Timothy O’Shea and his wife Sally from Granby, Patrick O’ Shea and his wife Laurie of Belchertown and Eugene O’Shea and his wife Layla of Wilbraham; two daughters, Noreen O’Shea of Chicopee and Mary and her husband Eugene O’Brien of Westfield; and eight grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers and one sister. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 9 AM from the Grise Funeral Home 280 Springfield St. Chicopee with a Mass of Christian Burial to take place at 10:00 AM in St Patrick's Church in Chicopee. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 3 to 7 PM at the funeral home.
