Obituary

Worcester – George L. Harris, 86, died Friday, March 14, 2014, at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge. He was predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Marion S. (McLean) Harris, who died in 2005. He is survived by four children, Marion S. Seery of Sutton, William Dyson Jr. of Dudley, Betty Jane Brouillard of South Yarmouth, and Richard J. Dyson of Akron, OH; one brother, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces. Several brothers and one sister predeceased him. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Ligor and Ephigenia Sotir (Roge) Harris, and was a lifelong resident of Worcester.

Mr. Harris worked at Thompson Steel Company in Worcester for many years, retiring over 25 years ago. He enjoyed collecting antiques and furniture refinishing. He specialized in oil lamps and traveled throughout New England collecting antiques with his wife. He was a gardener who especially enjoyed growing roses.

A funeral will be held privately for family. Burial will be private at Hillside Cemetery in Auburn. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472, or to the National Federation for the Blind, 200 East Wells St., Baltimore, Maryland 21230. Alfred Roy and Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St., Worcester, is directing the arrangements.
