John grew up in Roslindale, where at a very young age he began working to help his family. After graduating from Roslindale High, John served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. John hit the lottery on December 31, 1954 when he met Barbara and married her in October of 1956. John was a successful businessman in Roslindale as co-owner of Hourihan Oil heating and air-conditioning. John and Barbara raised their family in Roslindale. Professionally and personally, John was respected and revered by all. The word most used to describe John by others was “best”; best husband, father, uncle, son-in-law, brother–in-law, father-in-law, grandfather, boss, friend and man. When John wasn’t working or spending time with his family, he enjoyed playing cards, bowling and golf. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (http://www.stjude.org).
