New Bedford – Nellie (Augusta) Rocha, 85, of New Bedford passed away March 13, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the widow of Antone X. Rocha.
Mrs. Rocha was born in Newark, NJ, daughter of the late Joseph and Emily (Souza) Augusta, and resided in New Bedford most of her life. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, New Bedford. The New Bedford Public School System employed her as a cafeteria worker until her retirement.
Survivors include her sons: Mark Viera and his wife, Nicole, and Bruce Rocha and his fiancée, Gail Chaves, all of New Bedford; her grandchildren: Trisha Corbett Osborne and her fiancé, Stephen Niemi, of Wareham, Dr. Jennifer L. Viera and her husband, Captain Ted Steliga, of El Paso, TX, Alyssa N. Viera of New Bedford, Jesse M. Viera of New Bedford and Aaron Rocha of GA; her great-grandchildren: Cameron and Courtney Osborne, both of Wareham; and several nieces & nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours from 3:00-6:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at the Kirby Funeral Home, 61 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford. Funeral from the funeral home on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 8:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, New Bedford at 9:30 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made to the Oaks Nursing Home, 4525 Acushnet Ave, New Bedford, MA 02745 in care of Nellie Rocha.
Burial will be private.
