Richard E. Waters, 75

Dateline: Taunton, MA

Richard E. Waters, age 75, of Taunton, formerly of Mansfield passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stoughton. He was the beloved husband of Christine M. (Bojba) Waters to whom he was wed on September 22, 1973.
Born in Boston, MA on June 17, 1938, he grew up in the Mattapan neighborhood of Boston and was a graduate of English High School in Boston.
Richard proudly served his country for eight years as a member of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era. He was stationed in Germany and following his honorable discharge, he returned to civilian life and attended Northeastern University.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Waters had been employed as an inspector at Gillette in South Boston. He had previously worked as a computer operator at the John Hancock Insurance Co. in downtown Boston.
Richard had made his home in Taunton for the past 8 years and was a former resident of Mansfield for over 15 years. He was communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield where he had also served as a former lector, and was also a former member of the Mansfield VFW.
Richard’s hobbies included fishing, playing chess and when younger he enjoyed hunting. He was true sports enthusiast and was also quite knowledgeable and a collector of Civil War memorabilia. Mr. Waters loved spending time in the presence of his loving family and was very proud of his 15 years of affiliation with AA.
In addition to his beloved wife of 40 years, he is survived by his loving daughter, Kathryn M. (Waters) Doty and her husband Nicholas of Waltham. He was the dear brother in law of Barbara Bojba and her husband John Quinn of Boston, and the devoted uncle of Shane Quinn of Boston. He is also survived by many close friends including Ziggy and Dora Starzyk and their sons Michael and Joseph of Quincy.
His Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Monday, March 17th at 10:00 in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Military honors will be performed at the conclusion of services at St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be private.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, March 16th from 3:00-6:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, Richard’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108 or the M.S.P.C.A.
