Obituary

Charlotte Ellen (Smith) Webber, of Duxbury, formerly of Hingham, died at home on March 7, 2014.

Charlotte was born on August 4, 1915, the daughter of the late Charles N. and Florence A. Smith and was the wife of the late Roger P. Webber.

Charlotte graduated from Children’s Hospital School of Nursing and received her RN from Simmons College. She married Roger in 1939 and moved to Newton, MA. In 1953, the family moved to Hingham where she spent 25 years volunteering for the American Red Cross and 30 years for the Salvation Army. During the polio epidemic she was called back to work at Children’s Hospital and stayed on part-time until the early 60s. She served as school nurse in the Hingham Public Schools for 19 years. After retiring as a school nurse, she volunteered at South Shore Hospital working with pediatrics. In 1994, Roger and Charlotte moved to The Village at Duxbury. Charlotte’s never-ending energy and sense of humor led to her serving on many committees at the Village, including helping to form and then being elected to be the first President of the Residents’ Association serving two terms. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her work in the Village Library.

Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Lannin of Norwell; her son, Richard of Stephens City, VA; granddaughters, Lori-Ann Page of Kittery, ME, Meredith Hargreaves of Suffern, NY, Stacey Galvin of Hingham and great-grandchildren, Tegan and Aaron Page and Madelyn and Luke Galvin. Charlotte is also survived by a cousin, Ruth Cook of Alfrick, England.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the many caregivers who provided compassionate care for Charlotte.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on March 21, 2014, at Saint John the Evangelist Church, 410 Washington Street, Duxbury, MA, beginning at 11:00 AM. Following the service, there will be an observance at The Village of Duxbury.
