Obituary

CHICOPEE – Dorothy M. (Lachert) Hooper, 90, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, March 11, 2014. She passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born at home in Webster, Massachusetts on November 13, 1923, a beloved daughter of the late Frank and Lena (Boruski) Lachert. Her early years were spent in Webster and, as a teenager, she moved to Norman Street in the Willimansett section of Chicopee. In 1964, Dorothy and Roger settled in Fairview with their family. Her work history spanned 70 years when she began working at the former A. G. Spalding Company in Willimansett and then during World War II at the former F. W. Sickles Company in Chicopee. She was last employed for many years and worked at Ren Electronics and the Old Towne Caterers, both in South Hadley. Dorothy was an active woman and during her leisure time she enjoyed working around her home. She also enjoyed her many trips to the beaches on Cape Cod and, including just last week, enjoyed going to the movies with her friends. Dorothy was also a wonderful homemaker and help to her family. She showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her beloved daughter, Marie Lynn Hooper who was Called Home on September 6, 1978; her beloved husband of 32 years, Roger I. Hooper who was Called Home on March 12, 1979; her dear brother, Henry; and her four dear sisters, Lillian, Margaret, Anna and Cecilia. She leaves her three loving children, Wayne R. Hooper and his wife, Kathleen, of Incline Village, Lake Tahoe, NV, Nancy A. Hooper and her partner, Terry L. Starrett, of North Port, FL, and Jean K. Joyal and her husband, Raymond, of Holyoke; her two cherished grandchildren whom she adored, Shelby Hooper and Emmit Joyal; her three dear sisters-in-law, Helen Joyal and Cecile Hooper, both of Chicopee, and Rita Hooper of Winter Park, FL. She also leaves her very special dear niece, Christine Prout and her partner, John Gula, of Easthampton; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Hooper and Lachert families. A Prayer Service will be held on Saturday morning, March 15, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.). Her burial will follow the service at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, March 14, 2014 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
