Obituary

DUDLEY – Joanna S. “Stella” (Rompola) Raymond, 90, of Joshua Place, died Sunday, March 9, 2014 in Day Kimball Hospital, Putnam after a brief illness. Her husband of 53 years, Harold L. Raymond, died in 1999.
She leaves a son, George H. Raymond and his wife Darlene of Putnam, CT; 5 grandchildren, Chris J. Raymond of South Hadley, Andrew P. Raymond of Palmer, Greg J. Raymond, Stacy J. Fisk and Lisa M. Raymond, all of Putnam, CT; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves numerous children who considered her as their grandmother. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Pudelko of Dudley.
She was born and raised in Putnam, CT, a daughter of Kazimierz and Julia (Sus) Rompola. She lived in the Webster-Dudley area since 1945. She graduated from Putnam High School in 1940.
Mrs. Raymond started her work career as a secretary at Bradley Beef House in Putnam. She then was employed by American Greeting Card Company and then as a spinner by Anglo Fabrics Company in Webster, retiring in 1989.
She was a communicant of Saint Louis Church in Webster. She was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. She enjoyed playing bingo at the Joshua Place Community Center. Her favorite activity was spending quality time with her family and friends.
The funeral will be held Thursday, March 13, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Wednesday, March 12, in the funeral home. Donations in her name may be made to either St. Louis School Endowment Fund, 15 Lake Street, or the Disabled American Veterans, c/o Veterans Home, Veterans Way, both in Webster, MA 01570.
