Whitman – Edward M. “Ted” DeChambeau 86, a longtime resident of Whitman, passed away peacefully Thursday March 6 in the St. Joseph Manor of Brockton with his loving family by his side, after a long illness with Parkinson’s. He was the beloved husband of 64 years to Marguerite “Peggy” (Prouty) DeChambeau.
He had proudly served in the US Navy during the closing days of World War II.
Ted had worked for several baking companies and in the 1950’s was the “Bond Bread Man” in the Roosevelt Heights section of Brockton. In the 1970’s he was well known in Whitman as “Teddy Tip Top” and will be remembered for his cheerful whistling while makings his many deliveries, and had also worked many years at Nissens. He had later owned and operated a franchise for the Bachman Chip Company. Prior to his retirement at the age of 80, he had worked locally for McLauglin Chevrolet and Carey Motors, both of Whitman.
He was a former member of the Commercial Club of East Bridgewater, the French Club of Brockton and the Knights of Columbus of Whitman.
He truly enjoyed the many times spent with his family during their trips to Brant Rock Beach, and he along with his wife Peggy had enjoyed many weekends at the Cape as well as Caribbean cruises.
In addition to his wife Peggy, he is survived by his children Fred DeChambeau and his wife Noreen of East Bridgewater, Ed DeChambeau and his companion Patricia Simmons of Marston Mills, Cathy DeChambeau and her husband Benoit Cameron of Montreal, Canada and Cindy Rogers and her husband Tom of Abington and his brother Merrill DeChambeau of Maryland. He is also survived by his grandchildren Chris DeChambeau, Lisa Flynn, Jeff DeChambeau, and Tommy, Danny and Lauren Rogers and his great grandchildren Donna, Colin, Reagan, Owen, Aidan, Oliver and Jackson as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Bob and Freddy DeChambeau.
His funeral service will be held Tuesday March 11 at 12 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 11 AM – 12 PM.
