Obituary

Patrick J. Flanagan, 62, of New Bedford died Friday March 7, 2014 at Massachusetts General Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Daniel F. and Mary E. (Francis) Flanagan, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.

Mr. Flanagan was formerly employed as the facility security chief at the Barnes Federal Building in Boston. He had also previously worked for Reliable Security and Sheehan Associates.

During the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne Division. He attended Holy Family High School and received his paralegal certification from Fisher Junior College.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include a brother, Michael F. Flanagan and his wife Carol of Dartmouth; a nephew, Paul Flanagan and wife Bernice; a niece, Sherri Tetrault and husband Rob; great-nieces and great-nephews; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
