Obituary

Melvin J. Johnson, 90, of Berlin, NH passed away on Thursday March 6, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Berlin on February 15, 1924 the son of John and Joanna (Paulsen) Johnson and was a lifelong resident of Denmark Street. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Melvin was employed by the City of Berlin Public Works Department for 39 years. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Nansen Ski Club, the White Mountain Post #2520 VFW and enjoyed playing BINGO, helping people and cooking for his family.

Family members include his children Ann McGrath of Nashua, NH, John Johnson of Melvin Village, NH, Ruth Langlais of Berlin, NH, Gail Burlock of Berlin, NH, Jim Johnson of Hollis, ME and Rosemary Chaloux of Berlin, NH: 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister Gloria Orr of Berlin, NH; nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Graveside Service will be held in the early summer at the New City Cemetery in Berlin. There will be no calling hours. The Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Anyone who wishes may make a donation to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 101 Norway Street, Berlin, NH, 03570 in his memory.
