Ben Holmes, age 75, of Salem, NH, died Thursday at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill, MA, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and grew up in Scranton, PA, where he graduated from Scranton Technical High School. He later attended the University of Scranton, and the University of Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Ben and Helen (Mahady) Holmes.
Ben was in sales for various companies over the years. He was a US Army veteran, serving in Germany on the Czek border in the 3rd infantry division. Ben was a NH Justice of the Peace and a former chairman on the Salem Council on Aging. Ben was very proud of his Irish heritage and would always celebrate it. He enjoyed playing 45’s with family and friends. He also loved watching all Boston sporting events with his beloved wife Helen.
Ben was predeceased by his wife Helen (Thiele) Holmes, and his daughters, Katie and Patti Holmes. He was also predeceased by his brother Robert Holmes, his sister Mary Helene Walsh and her husband Leo Walsh.
He is survived by his Sons: Thomas and Timothy Holmes of Salem, NH
Sister in Law: Joan Holmes of Scranton, PA
Granddaughters: Erin and Molly Holmes
Calling hours will be Saturday, March 8th from 3-6 PM, followed by a funeral service at 6 PM at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St, Salem, NH. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Ave, Haverhill, MA 01830.
