Obituary

Alice M. Denoncourt, age 89 passed away at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 15, 1924 in Berlin, NH to the late Jules and Laura (Carrier) Couture. She was the eldest of six siblings. She moved with her family to Chicopee in the early 1940’s and began working for the Springfield Armory where she met her wonderful husband Donald and married in 1947. She worked at the Chicopee Undergarment for many years before retiring from Digital Equipment. After retiring Alice worked the voting polls. Alice was very involved with all aspects of Assumption Parish as a longtime choir member, singing at funerals in later years. She served on the Parish Council and was a member of the St Anne Sodality. She was one of the first Eucharistic Minister’s installed serving until her illness overcame her. She has helped organize parish bazaars, picnics, dinners, dances, religious services and she ran the parish bingo from the inception until its closing and also led the soup kitchen team. She walked to daily morning Mass for years as church was her second home. Alice traveled to the Holy Land during its major unrest trusting the Lord to keep her safe. It was a high point in her life. Alice was also a cancer survivor for over 35 years. She raised her five children to be respectful, compassionate individuals, stressed education and helped them through their high school and college years. Always trying to improve herself and learn from everyone she met. Alice leaves her beloved husband of 66 years Donald of Chicopee. She leaves two sons Roger and his wife Ann Marie of Jacksonville, NC and Thomas and his wife Marquita of Chicopee; three daughters Diane Pronovost and her husband David of West Springfield, Pauline Tudryn and her husband Thomas of Chicopee and Gail Salvador and her husband Ricardo of Chicopee; two brothers Maurice Couture and Claude Couture of Chicopee; three sisters Yvonne Pouliot, Madelaine Girard and Monique Thibodeau all of Fl. Alice also leaves fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday March 8, 2014 at 9:00 AM from the Grise Funeral Home 280 Springfield St. Chicopee with a Mass of Christian Burial to take place at 10:00 AM in Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Assumption Church (104 Springfield St). Burial will follow in St Michael the Archangel Mausoleum in St Michael Cemetery in Springfield. Calling Hours will be held on Friday March 7, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Holyoke VNA /Hospice of 113 Hampden Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
