Obituary

Laurent G. ‘Babe’ Levesque, 88 of Salem, passed away peacefully at his home, Sunday, March 2, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Married to the love of his life, Lucille T. (Charron) Levesque, the couple shared 67 years of marriage.

Born in Brockton and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Arthur and Valeda (Bernier) Levesque. In 1943, just prior to his eighteenth birthday, he joined the Navy where he served in the Asian Pacific Theater Campaign. During the war he operated troop landing craft on many of the Japanese occupied islands. Following the war Babe returned to Salem in 1946 as a highly decorated veteran.

He began working as a finish carpenter in the local construction industry, but soon began what was to be a 42 year career with the New England Power Company in Salem. Babe retired as a control room engineer at the plant.

Babe and Lou always enjoyed their many trips to Florida and New Hampshire. He was a member of the Salem Council on Aging, and the couple were long time members of the former St. Joseph Parish of Salem.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Lorraine Letarte and her husband Gilbert, Rita Iwanicki all of Salem, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Emile and Robert Levesque, and brother–in-law, Henry Iwanicki.
