Concord, Ma – Richard “Richy” Maciel Arruda, age 37 of New Bedford, died, unexpectedly, on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Emerson Hospital. He was the loving husband of Elisabete Faria and the son of Adriana (Maciel) and Manuel Arruda. He was born in New Bedford, where he spent all of his life and worked as a Carpenter for DDC Construction. Richy had a heart of gold and was always willing to put others before him. He was proud member of the Benfica Club and Uniao Faialence and enjoyed watching soccer with his father and fishing. He was also an avid Benfica and 49ers fan. Above all, Richy loved spending time with his wife and kids. He will be deeply missed by those fortunate enough to know him.
His surviving family includes his wife, Elisabete of New Bedford; his parents, Adriana and Manuel of New Bedford; his 3 children: Taylor Arruda of Vermont, Anderson and Christofer Arruda, both of New Bedford; 3 siblings: Goretti Pacheco and her husband, Roberto, of Dartmouth; Peter Arruda and his wife, Monica, of Fall River and Alexander Arruda of New Bedford; 3 nieces: Breanna Pacheco, Macenzie Arruda and Samantha Arruda; 2 nephews: Robert Pacheco, Jr. and Peter Arruda, Jr.; mother in-law, Gilda Maria Teixeira Faria, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Richy was predeceased by his grandparents: Maria and John Maciel and Maria and Jose Fortuna; and his father in-law, Jose Luis Faria.
Mr. Arruda’s funeral will be Friday, March 7 beginning at 8:00 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Assumption Church at 9:00 A.M. Visiting hours will be Thursday evening in the funeral home from 5 – 7 P.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
