GROSSE, BARBARA R. (Daniels) - 85 of Dedham, passed away unexpectedly February 15, 2014, while vacationing on the island of St. Martin with her daughter Elisabeth by her side. Barbara passed away in a place she loved visiting for the past 35 years. Although it was sudden and unexpected she died in a beautiful place she found happy and comforting. Barbara graduated from Hyde Park High school in 1945; shortly afterward she met her husband and dedicated herself to raising her four girls. Her children all established in school she then began working with her husband at the family owned business, The Jan-Ellen Nursing Home in Weymouth. Her true calling came in the 60's, when she started her career in singing and became a successful entertainer. Her glamorous and out going presence attracted many life long friends. The entertainment business, though demanding, did not keep Barbara from putting a home cooked meal on the dinner table every night. She mentored her grandson who followed in her footsteps in the entertainment business. She reached out to so many people throughout her life who will never forget her kindness, generosity and wisdom. She took great pride in celebrating all of her family and friend’s successes.
Barbara is predeceased by her beloved husband John of 63 years and her youngest daughter Barbara DeVirgilio. She will be sadly missed by her loving daughters, Jan Grosse of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Ellen Grosse of Milton, MA; Elisabeth Feeney and her husband John and her adored grandchildren Jack and Julia of Foxboro, Ma; son-in-law Domenic DeVirgilio of Norwood; her brother Jack Daniels and his wife Mary of Dedham. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at a later date.
