Dartmouth - Antonio DeFreitas, age 70 of Dartmouth, died Thursday, February 27, 2014 at home. He was the loving husband of Maria B. (Silva) DeFreitas of Dartmouth and the son of the late Ilda and Luis DeFreitas. He was born in Funchal, Madeira moved to this area years ago and worked as a Maintenance Man for Cumming Corporation. He was a member of Clube Sport Madeira.
His family includes his children: Joe Freitas and his wife, Eva, of Berkley, Ma, Zalia Rodrigues and her fiancé, Peter Lovegrove, of Dartmouth and Luisa Rocchi and her husband, Michael of Lakeville, Ma.; 2 grandchildren: Branden Rodrigues and his wife, Andrea, of Pawtucket and Courtney Rodrigues of Dartmouth; a great granddaughter, Madison Rodrigues; sister, Encarnacao Freitas of Madeira, brothers: Martinho, Hilario and Dionisio Freitas, all of Madeira, Manuel Freitas of Fairhaven and the late Incencio Freitas.
A memorial service at the Funeral Home with ashes present will take place Saturday March 8th from 11 am to 1pm with a religious service at 11:30 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The American Cancer Society or The Dana - Farber Cancer Institute. Arrangements are in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
