Julius H. Firmin, age 91, of Marlborough, MA, formerly of Carver, MA and Lyndeborough, NH, died on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at the UMass Memorial Medical Center in Marlborough, MA.
He was born on August 17, 1922 in Fitzwilliam, NH, and shared the same name of his grandfather, who served in the New Hampshire State Legislature. Julius was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Gertrude (Cass) Firmin, his parents, Horace B. & Letitia (Mitchell) Firmin and a sister and two brothers.
He lived on West Street in Carver, MA, for 35 years, where he raised chickens and sold fresh eggs. He liked to have at least one barn cat around the place to keep the mouse population down. Before moving to Carver, MA, to work as a truck driver for North Carver Pine, Julius lived for 19 years in Lyndeborough, NH and before that in and around Fitzwilliam and Hancock, NH. He always liked Mack trucks, saying that his "bulldog" could pass almost any other truck if it wanted to.
Julius was renowned for his story-telling. He had many favorite stories which family members could probably recite from the memory of repeated tellings. No matter the topic, Julius had an appropriate story from his past to fit. He also had a sharp sense of humor and loved a good joke.
He is survived by two sons, Alvin Firmin & his wife Karen of New Hampton, NH and Brian Firmin & his wife JoAnn of Wilton, NH; three daughters, Deborah Henderson of Millis, MA, Janet LeBarnes & her husband Joseph of Parker Dam, CA and Carol Magoon & her husband Leslie of Penacook, NH; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Charlotte Hall of Craftsbury Common, VT and a brother, Dan Firmin of Troy, NH.
