John P. Texeira, age 79, a lifelong resident of Norton passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at the Life Care Center in Attleboro.
Born in Norton, MA on November 30, 1934, he was a loving son of the late John and Lena (Gonsalves) Texeira.
John grew up and was educated in Norton. During the Korean War, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marines. Following three years of service, he was honorably discharged on March 7, 1957 with the rank of Corporal.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Texeira had worked as a machine operator at the former Cleveland Twist & Drill in Mansfield. He had previously been employed for 20 years at Swank, Inc. in Attleboro and also worked at New England Plastic Coated Products in Norton.
John was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton. He was an avid New England sports fan and his favorite team to cheer on was the New England Patriots. His other interests included tinkering around his home and he loved cruising in his T-Bird.
He was the beloved brother of Bea Nelson and her husband Ronald of Norton, Dominic Texeira and his wife Susan of Onset, Betty Polk and her husband Al of Norton and the late James Texeira. He is also survived by his many devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and aunt
His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday March 4th at 11:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial with military honors will follow in the Norton Common Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday morning prior to the services beginning at 9:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
