Obituary

WAYLAND: Ruth B. (Chase) Lavers, 86, died peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Wingate at Sudbury following an illness of several months.
She was born in Boston on August 23, 1927 the daughter of the late Chester C. Chase and Bessie E. (Nickerson) Chase.
Ruth is survived by her loving and devoted children Diana Ruth Lavers of Wayland; Richard K. Lavers and his wife Elaine M. Lavers of Riverside, RI and Phillip D. Lavers of Wayland. Grandmother of Jason Lavers and his wife Stacey Lavers of Warwick, RI and Jeremy Lavers and his wife Penny Lavers of Ware, NH. Also survived by 3 step-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren. Beloved wife of the late Kenneth W. Lavers who died on May 4, 2011. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Sister of the late Helen S. Banica, Doris C. McLaughlin and Arthur W. Chase.
Ruth has been a resident of Wayland for over 65 years and spent her formative years in Dorchester. She graduated from Boston Girls Trade School. In her earlier years, she was employed with the private domestic staff at Mainstone. For many years, Ruth was a dedicated and devoted Personal Care Assistant to many children and elders as their care giver and companion. She was one of the founding members of the Golden Tones and attended the First Baptist Church in Sudbury. For many years, she and her family were members of the Assembly of God in Wayland where she was a Sunday school teacher. She loved knitting and many of her family and friends were the recipients of afghans, baby blankets, slippers and booties. She volunteered at the Wayland Senior Center and at the Childrens Way. She loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. She was devoted to her faith and was a strong Christian woman.
A Memorial Service celebrating Ruth’s life will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Sudbury, 162 Landham Road, Sudbury, MA 01776.
Private family interment will take place at Blue Hills Cemetery in Braintree at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests that memorial gifts in Ruth’s memory may be sent to the First Baptist Church in Sudbury or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home of Wayland.
