Edward Evans Locke, 81, of Chula died Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at Main Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chula. Rev. Larry Layfield will officiate with burial to follow at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery in Butler with Masonic rites. Rev. Fitzgerald Brown will officiate. Howard Pearman, G. W. Pearman, Grady Pearman, Keith Jones, Scott Jones and Kyle Jones will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 28, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Locke will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Locke was born on May 13, 1932 in Howard and was the son of Gurvis Locke and Jeanette Brown Locke, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Cromer Locke, who died October 17, 2013. He was retired from the fertilizer business and was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Chula. He was also a Mason.
Mr. Locke is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and David Moore of Greenville, North Carolina and Julia and Jim Robison of Newnan; one son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Sonya Locke of Blackshear; one brother, John Locke of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren, Trey Stroud, Mathew Robison, Samuel Robison, Jadison Hayes, Jordan Locke and Jeslyn Stewart; and three great-grandchildren.
