Roger L. Ouellette, 86 of Salem, died Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a long illness. He was the husband of the late Rose M. (St. Pierre) Ouellette with whom he had shared 59 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Edmond and Laura (LeBel) Ouellette. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre in Guam with the US Navy. Following the war, he returned to Salem and worked in the construction industry. Married to Rose in 1952, he worked for the J. J. Welch Construction Co. until his retirement 20 years ago.
Roger was devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren, He also enjoyed doing household projects, gardening, as well as caring for his Koi fish pond. He was a life long member of Ste. Anne Parish.
He is survived by his son, Steven R. Ouellette and his wife Maureen of Salem, three grandchildren, Ryan of Cleveland, OH, Kyle and Kory both of Salem, his daughter-in-law Carol Ouellette Martini of Epping, NH, a sister Beatrice Lavoie of Topsham, NH, as well as many nieces and nephews including his devoted nephew Rodney Maurice. He was predeceased by his son, Raymond Ouellette, and siblings Edmond ‘Eddie’ Ouellette and Jeannette Gray.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral mass on Friday, February 28, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem. A committal service with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
