Obituary

CHICOPEE – Elizabeth P. (McMahon) Thomas, a third generation and lifelong resident of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, passed away at her home on Monday, February 24, 2014. She was born in Chicopee on June 12, 1933, a daughter of the late Bertram and Irene (Desrochers) McMahon. A lifelong communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church, she graduated from Saint Joan of Arc Elementary School in Chicopee and Cathedral High School in Springfield. After her graduation from The College of Our Lady of the Elms in Chicopee, she worked as a chemist for Technifax and the Heatbath Corporation. After marrying her husband, Dr. Paul F. Thomas, she joined the research department of the Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge. When her husband opened his dental practice in Chicopee, Elizabeth worked with him for several years. She was a member of the Valley Dental Women and a member of Le Cercle des Dames Francaises. Elizabeth and her husband, Dr. Paul F. Thomas, were blessed with three children, David A. Thomas of Chicopee, Dr. Daniel F. Thomas and his wife, Leonora, of South Hadley, and Susan I. Tryba of Chicopee; her four grandchildren, Bertram and Zoe Thomas, and Hailey and Mason Tryba; her sister, Lorraine Dube and her husband, Rene, of Wilbraham; her sister-in-law, Juliette DeMers of Chicopee; and five nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her sister-in-law, Annette Campbell and her husband, Gerard. Her funeral will be held on Friday morning, February 28, 2014 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
