Joseph E. Tesh, 91 of Manchester, NH died Thursday February 20, 2014 in the Elliot Hospital, Manchester. Mr. Tesh was born in Jersey City, NJ on January 7, 1923, a son of the late Michael and Agnes (Sczeyna) Tesh. He was a graduate of Ferris High School in Jersey City. Mr. Tesh later served with the US Air Force in China, Australia and New Guinea as an aerial gunner in a P61 “Black Widow”. He retired as a railroad conductor with the Port Authority of NJ & NY after over 30 years of employment. Mr. Tesh had resided in Manchester since 1999, formerly of Derry, NH. He enjoyed oil painting, starting with sculptures. He was also an avid gardener. Mr. Tesh traveled extensively, going on trips with the AARP, visiting Texas, Las Vegas, Mexico, Canada, and Ireland.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Qualey and her husband Frank of Manchester, his son, Joseph Tesh of Manchester, one grandchild, Nicholas J. Tesh of Manchester, two great-grandchildren, Lana and Peyton Tesh, two sisters, Joanie Reynolds and Mary Tesh, both of New Jersey, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in 1999 by his wife of 50 years, Veronica (O’Neill) Tesh.
Calling hours were held on Tuesday February 25, 2014 from 4 – 7 pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A Catholic prayer service followed at 7:00 pm in the funeral home.
