Janey F. Tomberlin, 87, of Wilcox County, Georgia, died Thursday, February 20, 2014, at Golden Living Center in Tifton, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, February 23, 2014, at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Ben Hill County, with the Rev. Jerry Wilson and the Rev. Fred Eister officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 PM to 9 PM, Saturday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Tomberlin was born May 25, 1926 in Abbeville to the late Claudie E. and Jessie Naomi Head Fuller. After graduating high school, she attended summer courses at the former Douglas College and taught for a couple of years. During her early years of marriage, to Roy Lee Tomberlin, she lived in the Lands Crossing area and then later moved to the Bethlehem community. She served as pianist for Abba Baptist Church and Bethlehem Baptist Church for many years. Mrs. Tomberlin was an operator with General Telephone for over 20 years. She loved to garden, grow flowers, be with her family and will be remembered by them as “The Best Cook”. She was the oldest living member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son: Stephen L. & Debbie Tomberlin of Fitzgerald; two daughters: Teresa T. & Larry Wheeler of Moultrie and Susan T. & Larry Eidson of Elberton, Georgia; eight grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Roy Lee Tomberlin; an infant son: Dennis David Tomberlin; and two brothers.
