Jerry “Lindsey” Hill, Sr., 58, of Eldorado died Thursday, February 20, 2014, in Tifton. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 2014, at Union Grove Church of God in Eldorado. Rev. Edward Rigby, Rev. Denise Percival and Rev. Todd Garner will officiate with burial to follow in Union Grove Church of God Cemetery. Randall Moore, Harrison Brown, Gerold Peele, Mike Williams, Danny Thompson and Randy Blalock will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Melvin Thompson, Gene Barber, Mike Owens, B. B. Ball, Coy Tawzer, Jimmy Thompson, Bob Burnett, Willie Moore, Tyrone Spearman, Steve Curry, Buck Aultman, Bill Turnmire, Ricky Moore, Eddie Dunn, Dwight Dunn, Buster Mercer, Dr. Robert Anderson, Allen Parrish, Don Turner, Larry Dunn, Reid Jones, Bob Lee and members of the Sanctuary Sunday School Class at Union Grove Church of God. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 23, 2014, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Hill will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Hill was born on December 29, 1955 in Tift County and was the son of George Thurston Hill and Rosa Pitts Hill, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene Hill, Melvin Hill and Wayne Hill; and two nephews, Michael Hill and Walter Hill. He was a farmer and a member of Union Grove Church of God, where he served as an usher for approximately 35 years. He was faithful to this ministry and took much pride in his usher duties. He loved farming, tractor pulls and spending time with his family. He enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and attending the races when he could. He was a member of the FFA in high school and a member of the AET Club at ABAC. He was a past recipient of the Star Chapter Farmer Award. He was also a former member of the Eldorado Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Hill is survived by his wife of 33 years, Connie Noland Hill of Eldorado; one son, Jerry Hill, Jr. of Eldorado; one daughter, Beth Hill Harrison of Eldorado; one grandson, Drayden Harrison of Eldorado; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Pat Atwater of Tifton; two sisters-in-law, Linda G. Hill and Sharon C. Hill, both of Eldorado; and many nieces and nephews.
