Gilford-----Abby M. Greene, 80, of 343 Old Lakeshore Road has taken her heavenly flight to be with her Lord, February 19, 2014.
Abby was born on September 21, 1933 in Canaan, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Eva Greene. She graduated from Franklin High School and was also a graduate of Concord Tech with an Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Abby proudly served twelve years in the United States Air Force, attending the Strategic Air Command Officers School, receiving her stripes as Technical Sergeant in the 5th Field Maintenance Squad at Travis Air Force Base in California. Abby also completed training for Air Force Supervisors at Ramey Air Force Base, Puerto Rico. Abby served in many places around the world, Guam, Okinawa, England.
After her military service, she returned to New Hampshire and worked as a machinist and mechanic at IPC in Bristol and Delfont Lumber, Andover. After retirement, Abby enjoyed teaching us about home repairs, going fishing, gardening, telling us about the history of the world wars and airplanes. Abby also enjoyed making model planes.
Abby is survived by her family, Doris Greene of Andover, David Greene of Andover, Mike Greene and his wife, Carol, of Northfield, Wendy Miller of Gilford and her grandchildren, whom she was very proud of, Jeff Greene, Travis Greene and Pete Greene.
There will be no calling hours.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 2:00PM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2238 Parade Road, Laconia, N.H.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 2:30PM in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, N.H.
For those who wish and in lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to The New Hampshire Aviation Historical Society, 27 Navigator Road, Londonderry, NH 03053.
