GLOUCESTER – Virginia R. (Cheek) Noble, 89, died peacefully early Monday morning, February 17, 2014 at the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was the devoted wife of the late Jerome “Jerry” Noble, Jr., who died in July of 2011. They had shared sixty-eight years of marriage.
Born in New York City on August 4, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Robert F. and Mildred (Bliss) Cheek.
Virginia was a dedicated and loyal wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She passionately adored and watched over her family and gracefully enjoyed her later years with her husband who lovingly called her “Shug.” She maintained a strong Christian faith that was reflected in her happy and content manner. As an adoring grandmother and loving aunt called “Gi-Gi,” she was very quick to the wit and loved to laugh. Any kind of practical joke made her happy. She, and her son Scott, who preceded her, will now enjoy many laughs together!
Her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren adored the time they spent with Grandma throughout the years, where she made each one feel truly special as they talked and interacted with her. Even while living peacefully with the good people of Seacoast, she always accommodated the children by allowing them to “dress her up” however they wished! She was a total love whose soft beautiful blue eyes could maintain the most intense of gazes. She will be most missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by six children, Linda, wife of Sterling Abram, Sandra Perry, Geraldine, wife of Tom Cronin, Stephen, husband of Dee (Erwin) Noble, Chris, husband of Cathleen (McQuarrie) Noble, and Timothy Noble, companion of Vicki Briggs; twenty grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews which include Glen MacLeod, whom she thought of as a son, and his wife, MaryHelen. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Maria (O’Brien) Noble and former daughters-in-law, Nancy (Saunders) Noble, Patty (Frontiero) Watson, and Debbie (Mahoney) Salah. Virginia and Jerry had also maintained a life-long and valued friendship with Roy Spittle. She was predeceased by an infant son, a son, D. Scott Noble, and her son-in-law, Dana Perry.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 27th in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9 to 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
