BERKLEY - Maria (Gouveia) Fontes, wife of the late Gabriel Fontes, died at the Golden Living Center Oak Hill, Middleboro on Feb. 16, 2014, following a brief illness.
She was 95.
Born in New Bedford to the late Cyril and Christina (Mendes) Gouveia, she was raised and educated in Taunton, and lived in Berkley for over 75 years.
She worked at the Welch and later Nabisco Chocolate Factory in Mansfield for 38 years before her retirement in 1980.
The years outside of work were spent raising a family and working the family farm in Berkley.
She was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Taunton.
Survivors include a son, Gabriel J. Fontes of Berkley, her grandchildren, Barden Keeler and his wife Mary of Naples, FL and Heather (Keeler) Barrows of Taunton; her great grandson, Keith Borden of Berkley; great-great grandsons, Jaden and Kayden; her brother, Joseph Gouveia of Berkley; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late Joanne C. Cambra, and the sister of the late Edith Fernandes, Cora Danise, and Manuel, Alfred, and Anthony Gouveia.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Thursday, Feb. 20th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Annunciation of the Lord Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Feb 19th from 5 to 7 p.m.
