Obituary

William Lincoln "Bill" Owens, 89, of Lincoln, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2014, at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Massachusetts. He was born in 1924 in Newton, MA, to Francis and Florence Owens. He grew up in Newton, and after graduating from high school entered the Army, serving in both the European and Pacific theaters during World War II. After his service he attended Northeastern University in Boston and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked as an engineer for New England Telephone until his retirement. In 1951 he married Marjorie Flight, to whom he remained married for over sixty-two years. Bill and Marge lived in Winchester for over fifty years before moving to Lincoln.

A quiet, gentle man with a good sense of humor, Bill was greatly loved by his family and friends. From his youth, Bill was very mechanically inclined. He enjoyed improving his homes in Winchester and on Lake Winnipesaukee with construction and wiring projects. He also began sailing at a young age, and sailed for over eight decades. He loved to be on the water. He was a member of Winchester Town Meeting and a poll volunteer for many years. A pillar of the Crawford Memorial United Methodist Church in Winchester, he served as a Trustee, head usher, and on numerous other committees. He was also very active in the Moultonboro, NH, United Methodist Church. Bill served for many years on the board of the New England Deaconess Association, and was the head of the planning board for Newbury Court, in Concord, MA.

Bill is survived by his wife Marjorie, by their daughter, Jane Beatty of Westford, MA, and two grandchildren, Anna and Will Beatty, also of Westford.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Costello Funeral Home 177 Washington St., Winchester on Friday, Feb. 21 from 4-7PM.
A Funeral Service will be held in the Crawford Memorial United Methodist Church, 34 Dix St. (corner of Dix and Church St.), Winchester, MA 01890 on Sat., Feb. 22 @ 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to Crawford Memorial UMC at the address listed above.
