Obituary

Rodney Duane Johnson
April 1, 1966- February 13, 2014

Rodney Duane Johnson, 47, of Anderson, died Thursday, February 13, 2014 at his home. He was born on April 1, 1966 in Anderson, the son of Jerry Joe and Linda Kay (Fowler) Johnson. He was a graduate of Highland High School. He was employed for 28 years with North American Roofing as a project manager and was a member of The Bridge Church. Rod was the model project manager at his company-dedicated, loyal, successful, a mentor to his crews, an example to his peers, and a role model to those around him. Rod was appreciated and respected for calling things as he saw it, hard working, accountable, and constantly looking for ways to improve. Rod out-distanced himself amongst his co-workers, setting the bar higher, demanding those around him to do better. In a professional world where employees strive to conduct themselves following the values of Service, Teamwork, Accountability, and Respect, Rod was not only a shinning example, he was a guiding light.

Rod lived life to the fullest and was constantly surrounded by friends and family. His many hobbies included boating, four-wheeling, fishing, bowling, running, water-skiing, biking, golfing, paddle boarding, hiking, and kayaking. His favorite place in the world was Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee. He vacationed every summer at the lake spending time boating with family and friends. He was proud of completing the Indianapolis Mini-Marathon last year and was excited to beat his time this year. Amazingly, he was also one of the few people who had bowled a 300 game. He was a great cook and enjoyed grilling out and entertaining his family and friends on his deck while playing a game of Cornhole. He was an excellent card player and loved challenging his family to a game of Peanuts. He was also a master handyman, being known to be able to build or fix anything and had a work ethic second to none. He was willing to help out anyone in need, constantly lending a hand to neighbors, friends, and family. He had a dynamic personality with an infectious laughter that people were drawn to. He was a devoted father to his children Alex and Blake, and his step children Derrick, Kylie, and Taylor. He was especially proud of his new grandson, Maddux. Most importantly, Rod was a born-again Christian and loved our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Survivors include his wife Angela ( Crawford ) Johnson, his parents; Jerry and Linda Kay Johnson, 2 Children; Alex and Blake Johnson, 2 Step Children; Derrick (wife Kylie) and Taylor Campbell, a grandson, Maddux Campbell, a sister, Sondra Majors (Troy Towsey) , 2 brothers, Eric (wife Leslie) Johnson and Randy (wife Ginger) Johnson; nieces and nephews; Heather Majors, Drew Majors, Will Johnson, Isabelle Johnson, Hannah Mace, Dylan Johnson, Ryan Williams, and Blake Williams; Sister-in-law, Amy Williams; Lifelong friends, Darin and Kathy Blackwell, Ryan Stowe, his Old Man and his Brother who were his best friends, and many, many, other dear friends.
