Obituary


Worcester: Joseph A. B. Leahy Jr., 70, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2014 in the Rose Monahan Hospice after a short illness. He leaves his brother John F. Leahy, an uncle Vincent P. and his wife Mary Leahy of Auburn; an aunt Dorothy Carr and her husband William Carr of Fl; his beloved German shorthaired pointer Jake; and many cousins who loved and admired him, including John V. Leahy who was privileged to help him during his last illness. He was predeceased by several other aunts and uncles, his maternal grandparents Ursula and Simon Varaski, and his paternal grandparents Patrick and Nora Leahy.



Joe was born in Worcester, son of the late Isabelle (Varaski) and Joseph A. B. Leahy Sr. He graduated from St. Johns High School, class of 1961- the last graduating class before the school moved from Temple St to its present location in Shrewsbury. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard for 4 years and was a disabled veteran. He worked as a postal employee for over 39 years for the US Postal Service. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Church, a lifetime member of the NRA, the Leicester and Singletary Rod and Gun Clubs, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.



Calling hours will be held on Tuesday February 18, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. in Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln St. Worcester, MA 01605. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Church 570 Lincoln St. Worcester. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery.
