Obituary

WEBSTER – Martin C. “Marty” Kichar, 49, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014 in UMass/Memorial Healthcare, Worcester, after a courageous battle with a rare illness.
He leaves his mother, Ethel L. (Beas) Kichar with whom he lived; his father, George J. Kichar, Sr. of Derby, CT; 3 sisters, Karen L. Kichar and Ethel L. Rivera, both of Webster, and Jo-Ann E. Vantassel Kichar of New York; 2 nephews, 4 nieces, 2 great-nieces, aunts, uncles and many cousins; his godparents, Charles Beas, Jr. of Ansonia, CT and Betty Coe of Wallingford, CT; and many friends. He was predeceased by his brother, George J. Kichar, Jr. in 2004.
He was born on February 21, 1964 in Derby, CT. He was raised in Shelton, CT and in Providence, RI before moving to Webster in 1979.
Mr. Kichar was a shipper at Shields Packaging in Webster for several years, retiring due to illness in 2006.
He excelled in drawing and free hand string arts. He loved music and sports. He was very close with his nephews and nieces and, although he had none himself, he loved children. He had a heart of gold.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, February 22, in Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Friday, February 21, in the funeral home.
