Oscar Jackson “Jack” Doss, Jr., 75, of Tifton died Friday, February 14, 2014, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2014, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kelltown. Rev. Kevin Harris and Rev. Robert Thompson will officiate with burial to follow at Omega Cemetery. Earl Griffin, John Bush, Lee Bush, Chad Purvis, Jeff Bush and Rob Stanford will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Oak Grove Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 15, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Doss will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Doss was born on September 10, 1938 in Tifton and was the son of Oscar Jackson Doss, Sr. and Mildred Evelyn Gibbs Doss, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one son, Michael Jack Doss; one brother, Howard Ray Doss; and one sister, Janice Faye Doss Purvis. He was a farmer and a retired rural letter carrier, which he truly enjoyed. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kelltown, where he served as a deacon. He loved the dirt; loved farming; loved being outdoors; and loved his family. He met no strangers and always said “a stranger is a friend you haven’t met yet.” He served in the Army Reserve and was a Christian, first and foremost.
Mr. Doss is survived by his wife, Sandra Jenell Bush Doss of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Dana Machelle and Don Tawzer of Tifton; one daughter-in-law, Iris Doss of Tifton; one sister, Barbara Ann Doss Clark of Crosland; two grandchildren, Trenton Michael Doss and Megan Elizabeth Tawzer; his mother-in-law, Lavada Bush of Omega; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Shelby and Tommy Griffin of Omega, Norman and Betty Bush of Valdosta and Linda and Wayne Archer of Bunnell, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
