Eleftherios Vangos, 87, of West Boylston, died Thursday, February 13th in the Christopher House of Worcester. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ekaterini (Matsakas) Vangos; his two sons, Angelo E. Vangos, and his wife, Ann, and John E. Vangos and his wife, Joanna all of West Boylston; five brothers, Donatos Vangos of Worcester, Vasilis Vangos of Agio, Greece and Nickolas, Minas and Pavlos Vangos all of Athens Greece; two sisters, Angeliki Soufleris and her husband, Ilias of Worcester and Ourania Pappas and her husband, Theodore of Holden; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Teddy, Elias, Michael and Melina Vangos; his brother in law Dimitris Droumbalas of Worcester; and many nephews and nieces here and in Greece. He was predeceased by his sister, Olga Droumbalas.
He was born in Epirus, Greece the son of Evangelos and Georgia (Tsilis) Vangos and moved to Worcester with his family in 1967. Mr. Vangos had served in the Greek Army. He had been employed by Table Talk Pies and later by New England Automatic Rolls as a baker for many years until his retirement. Mr. Vangos was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, its Senior’s group and the Pan Epirotic Society.
The funeral is Saturday, February 15th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a service at 9:30 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, February 14th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
