Robert I. Stewart 96, formerly of Walpole, Ma, passed away peacefully at Forge Hill Sr. Living, in Franklin, Ma. He was the husband of the late Ruth Stewart, father of Robert and Michelle Stewart of Colorado, Nancy Jill Stewart of Waltham, and Jeffrey and Pamela Moor of Millis. He also leaves two grandchildren, Emily Falotico of South Boston and Hannah Moor of Quincy.
Born in Boston, Bob is the son of the late Alexander and Helen Stewart of Edinburgh, Scotland, and brother of the late, Agnus Stewart, Katie Johnston, Ellen McPhee, and William Stewart, all from the Boston/Cambridge area.
He graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in management, from the School of Business.
Bob is best remembered as the Veterans agent for the Town of Walpole, VP Loan Officer for the South Shore National Bank and Town Representative for a very long time. He was a true patriot. As a Marine during World War 11, he served our country in Japan and founded the Norfolk County Detachment Marine Corps League, which is still active today. Bob belonged to many organizations including the Shriners, VFW, the Masons, Boston Business Men’s Association, Board of Directors for the MBTA, and many other local civic minded group.
For those of you depending on Plimptonville as your local train stop in Walpole, you can thank Bob for securing it as a permanent stop for perpetuity. He was a person who helped people in their time of need. He lived a long and industrious life serving his community. He will be remembered for his love of the Red Sox and summers vacationing on Cape Cod.
His funeral service will be held on Friday, February 14 in the United Church of Walpole at 11:00a.m.
Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Walpole.
