Obituary

Jane C. (Gosk) Lundberg, 96, died at the St. Francis Home on February 10, 2014. Born in Worcester, Ma. September 24,1917 to the late Benjamin and Teofila (Ozarowski) Gosk, Jane grew up on Vernon Hill where she attended St. Mary's Catholic Grammar School and graduated from Commerce High School in 1936. Jane retired after working 10 years in the cafeteria at Burncoat St. High School to enjoy winters in Florida with her husband Ivar. Prior to working, she was a stay-at-home mother to her three children.
Jane and Ivar were married for 70 years. The first ten years of marriage were spent living in the Belmont Street area, where good times were spent at Bell Pond and Green Hill Park - swimming, picnicking and attending band concerts. For the next 60 years she lived in her home on Drummond Avenue near Indian Lake. Her three children felt loved and privileged to have a mother who was calm, fair, and advised how to look at life's problems from various points of view without instant reaction. She was a lovely, sweet lady who had many friends. Jane was a good candlepin bowler, dancer, and an excellent card player of whist, cribbage, and poker. Our mother was a dedicated walker, reader, and enjoyed life. During World War II, Jane would travel alone by train to meet her husband on leave at various ports of call when his ship came back to the States. During this time, she volunteered to write letters home for other servicemen who needed help writing. Jane was aware she had Alzheimer's disease and made a comment in jest that, "I think I read too many books and froze my brain."

Jane’s husband, Ivar, predeceased her in 2007. She is survived by her daughter, Joan LaBonte and her husband Ronald of Worcester, son Robert Lundberg and his wife Rita "Rikay" of Charlton, son Kenneth Lundberg and his wife Margaret of Worcester and her sister, Wanda Fish, of Worcester, six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. A brother, Benjamin Gosk and two sisters, Anne Konisky and Helen Swierzbin predeceased her.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the St. Francis Home for their wonderful care of Jane.

A calling hour will be held from 8:30-9:30 am, Sat., Feb. 15, at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. and a 10 am Mass will follow at St. George’s Church, 38 Brattle St., Worcester. Burial will be at All Faiths Cemetery, where Jane will be laid to rest beside her husband.
