Obituary

Ann Claire (Foley) Wong, born on June 20, 1933, the daughter of the late Francis J. and Anna (Deasy) Foley, and the beloved wife of Dennis Wong, has gone to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ. She departed this world suddenly on February 9, 2014. We rejoice in knowing that she is now living in the Kingdom of God, in His love and glory, but she will be deeply missed by her husband, children, relatives and friends.

Ann graduated from Holy Family High School in 1951, then went on to Boston to pursue her dreams of becoming a nurse. She graduated from Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing and worked for several years in Boston, before returning to New Bedford to marry her husband Dennis in 1964.

Ann worked briefly at St. Luke's Hospital until the birth of her children. Our Mom spent the next chapter of her life as a loving wife and mother. Her heart was always open and welcoming to people. She had great listening skills and understanding; a generous spirit; and an extremely wonderful sense of humor. She loved crocheting, often making blankets and afghans, and after praying over and blessing them she would then give them to her loved ones.

As we look back and think about our Mom, we realize how much she nurtured, encouraged, listened, understood and loved us unconditionally. She was our rock and our glue. Our Mom taught us to follow our dreams, to not overlook injustices, to love wholeheartedly, and to seek the Lord in all situations. We ask for your prayers as we begin the grieving process because it is going to be so hard.

She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Dennis Wong; her three children, Lisa Wong of Dartmouth, Jade Wong and her spouse Jessica Oliver, of New Bedford, and Dennis Wong of New York; her grandchildren, Joseph and Grace; her sisters, Margaret Wong of Mattapoisett and Mary Clavin of Apple Valley, CA; and several nieces and nephews. She was a special Mom to her niece Maryann Foley Mello.

She was the sister of the late Michael Owen Foley.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 12:30 PM at St. Lawrence Church. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 3-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
