Dennis C. Frias, 63, of Hudson, died unexpectedly at Marlboro Hospital after being stricken ill at his home on Sunday, Feb. 9th.
Dennis was born in Santa Maria, the Azores of Portugal, son of the late Antonio J. Frias and survived by his mother Maria (Chaves) Frias of Hudson. He was raised in Hudson after emigrating from Portugal at the age of 5. He attended local schools and was a 1969 graduate of Hudson High School. He later received his Bachelor’s Degree in 1973 from Worcester State College. Dennis eventually earned his Master’s Degree and was currently working on his Doctorate’s Degree. He was employed as a language teacher and later a guidance counselor in the Hudson Public School System until his retirement in 2011. He was a member of the Hudson Portuguese Club and Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson.
Dennis had many interests throughout his life including traveling. He spent 28 summers in Madrid, Spain furthering his education but his passion in life was dancing. He truly enjoyed the art of dance and loved to share his talents as an instructor at many levels. He taught dance classes both privately and publicly at many local venues including the Hudson Portuguese Club and night classes at Assabet Valley Technical High School. In the 70’s and early 80’s he taught dancing at the Joy of Movement Dance Studio in Cambridge and was well known as the Dennis C. Frias Dance Co. Dennis always looked forward to spending time with his family and his many friends. He cherished them all and he will be truly missed.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his five brothers, Antonio Frias and his wife Manuela, Jose Frias and his wife Joanne, Manuel Frias and his wife Aldora, David Frias and Armindo Frias and his wife Joanne, all of Hudson; his three sisters, Maria da Silva and her husband Aluisio and Rosa F. Garcia and her husband Luis, all of Hudson and Theresa Frias of Marlboro. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews and dear friends. He was the brother of the late Lena Reuben, John Frias, Isabel Leandres, Steven Frias and Gilbert Frias.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Feb. 12th at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Hudson. Family and friends may attend calling hours on Tuesday, Feb. 11th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
