Obituary

GREENFIELD – Richard P. Wilk, 65, of Greenfield and a former longtime resident of the Fairview section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, February 4, 2014. He passed into Eternal Life from his home surrounded by all the memories he loved and cherished. He was born in Holyoke on February 6, 1948, a beloved son of the late Peter J. and Lillian B. (Cote) Wilk. He was raised in the Fairview section of Chicopee, graduated in 1965 from Chicopee Comprehensive High School and lived in the city for many years before moving to Greenfield. He furthered his education and attended Lowell Technical University in Lowell, MA. He was previously employed as the Senior Project Manager at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He later was Project Manager at Architects, Inc., in Northampton, where he was in charge of various construction projects including schools, libraries, police and fire stations as well as hospital construction. He was also involved with the plans and specifications for the demolition of the Hotel Charles and cost estimating for the relocation of properties on the site of the Basketball Hall of Fame, both in Springfield. In 1998, he established and was the owner and President of the Consulting Management Group (CMG) in the Fairview section of Chicopee which he operated until his death. As a consultant for CMG, he served clients including the Diocese of Springfield where he served as the Diocesan Building Consultant overseeing various projects in Western Massachusetts including Holyoke Catholic High School, the new Churches of Immaculate Conception in Holyoke and Blessed Sacrament Church in Westfield, as well as Saint Michael’s Academy and Cathedral High School, both in Springfield. He was also a consultant for the City of Springfield, the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority (PVTA), and the Franklin Regional Transit Authority (FRTA). He was predeceased by his beloved parents and his loving brother, Thomas J. Wilk of the United States Army who was Killed in Action in Vietnam on June 13, 1969. He leaves many cousins and friends. His family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 12:10 p.m. at Saint Michael Cathedral, 254 State Street, Springfield, MA 01103. His burial will be held at a later date at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery Street, Chicopee, MA 01013.
