Obituary

John Lydon ,84, of Manchester, died February 6, 2014. Born in Manchester. July 31, 1929,to William and Nora(Early) Lydon.
He received his early schooling at MacDonald school, and St. Joseph Boy’s High School class of 1947. Later he earned an Associate Degree in Business from Hesser College.
In 1952 John became a member of the Manchester Fire Department. Over the years he moved up the ranks and in 1967 he was promoted to Assistant Chief. In 1976 John was promoted to Chief of Department, a position he held until 1987, after 35 plus years of service.
He was a Director of the NH Fire Chiefs Association; New England Fire Chiefs Association;as well as a Past President of the New England division of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. John was a member of the NFPA, Board of Directors of the Red Cross, The United Way, and the 100 Club.
From 1988 to 1992 John served on the City of Manchester Board of Mayor and Alderman, representing Ward 11.

Family members include his wife Janet Lydon, of Manchester; his step children, Jody Thomas, Kevin Thomas, both of Manchester, John Thomas, of CA; his grandson, Jonathan Vallee, of Manchester; his great grandson Lydon Thomas Vallee;his sisters, Anna Lydon, Ruth Byrne, both of Manchester. John was predeceased by his first wife Rita O’Connor Lydon in 1983, a brother William Lydon in 2005, his sisters Agnes Lydon in 1987, Patricia Zorawowicz in 1968.

A funeral Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at St. Joseph Cathedral, Pine St. Manchester.
Burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery, Donald St. Manchester.
