Obituary

Joseph W. Harrington, "Dodo", 69, of Medway formerly of Jamaica Plain, died February 6, 2014, surrounded by his family in Milford Hospital.
Born in Boston, March 15, 1944, the son of the late Joseph M. and Catherine (Bray) Harrington. Dodo grew up as the oldest of six Harrington children in Jamaica Plain and lived in the city most of his life. He spent two enjoyable years of his retirement residing in Naples, FL until returning to New England as he missed the changing of the seasons and his family.
Mr. Harrington was a 1962 graduate of Don Bosco Technical High School. He had worked as an insulator and was a lifelong member of Heat and Frost Insulators, Local 6, Boston before his retirement.
Dodo was a gifted athlete who played many sports with his passion being baseball. He enjoyed trivia and watching old movies. Dodo has touched many lives with his outgoing personality, humor and storytelling. He will be deeply missed.
He was the father of the late Gregory Harrington of Medway and Virginia who passed on June 1, 2013.
He is survived by his son Derek Harrington and his wife Courtney and his grandchildren Madison, Sydney, Jake and Elle of Franklin.
He is also survived by his three brothers, Richard and his wife Diane of Medway, William and his wife Cindy of Weymouth, and Ronald and his wife Cindy of Walpole as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Robert and Donald Harrington.
A memorial service will he held on Saturday, February 15, at the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St Franklin, MA at noon. Visiting hours will begin at 9:30a.m.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to Visions Foundation located at 910 Washington Street, Dedham, MA 02026 where they provide financial support to families in need that are being treated at Visions Healthcare. Visions Healthcare's mission is to develop a new approach to many common and preventable diseases. It was through the Vision Healthcare approach and dedication of their clinical team that Dodo's granddaughter Madison was finally diagnosed with Lyme disease. Donations made in memory of Joe (Papa Doe) support Vision Healthcare’s mission, research and the community.
