Jerry M. Griffin, 72, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, February 6, 2014, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Saturday, February 8, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Dr. Mike Ruffin and the Rev. Derrell Hampton officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery in Ambrose. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Griffin was born February 3, 1942, in Coffee County, Georgia, to Hazel Hutchinson Griffin and the late Melvin Pete Griffin. He was a graduate of Coffee County High School and has lived in the community for over 50 years. He was an avid foxhunter and a life-long farmer. Mr. Griffin was a member of First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, where he attended the Jim Carlton Sunday school class.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Susan J. Griffin of Fitzgerald; daughter: Jerrilyn & Steven Mitchell; son: Bryan & Anjette Griffin of Fitzgerald; five grandchildren: Allison Mitchell, Wesley Mitchell & fiancé Danielle Hebert, Kyle & Kayla Griffin, Ryan Griffin & fiancé: Kelli Ash and Katy Griffin; three great-grandchildren: Kaden Griffin, Kenslie Griffin and Elli Ash; his mother: Hazel Griffin of Coffee County; a sister: Sandra Sirmans and a sister-in-law: Evelyn Griffin. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother: James Arthur Griffin.
