Obituary

Edward J. Long, Jr., 74, of Worcester died Tuesday, February 4th in UMASS Memorial Medical Center – University Campus. His wife of 32 years, Maryann E. (Horgan) Long died in 1998. He leaves a son, Edward J. Long, III; two daughters, Maura A. Long and Emily J. Kay and her husband, Daniel all of Worcester; two brothers, Paul M. Long and his wife, Kathleen of Worcester and James D. Long and his wife, Gloria of Boylston; three sisters, Kathleen A. Laperle and her husband, Paul of Spencer, Frances D. Milionis and her husband, George of Paxton and Arlene E. Long of Worcester; a brother in law, Roy Hebert of Greece, NY; a sister in law, Elizabeth Long of Worcester and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, John W. Long and a sister, Maryellen Hebert.
He was born in Worcester the son of Edward J. Long, Sr. and Marion R. (Kehoe) Long. Edward worked at Saint-Gobain the former Norton Company for 42 years as a quality control technician retiring in 2001. He was a member of St. Christopher’s Church and the Knights of Columbus Alhambra Council. Mr. Long enjoyed classical music, crossword puzzles and football especially Holy Cross and Notre Dame. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff for their compassion and care during Edward’s time at the Christopher House.
His funeral is Monday, February 10th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Christopher’s Church, 950 West Boylston Street. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday February 9th from 3:00 until 5:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics Inc., 1133 19th street NW, Washington, DC 20036 or to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, New England Chapter, 60 Walnut Street, Wellesley MA 02481.
