Obituary

Arthur Joseph Dugas, 85, of Manchester, NH died February 3, 2014 at the Elliot Hospital.
Born on August 30, 1928 in Manchester, he was the son of Arthur G. and Blanche (Pelletier) Dugas. He was raised in Concord and Rochester, NH, and graduated from Spaulding High School.
Arthur held numerous positions throughout his working life. He had been employed by Hubbard Shoe in Rochester for 20 years and also served as the Chief of Police in Berwick, ME for several years. In 1967 he moved to Manchester and worked with his brothers in the construction industry for Dugas Construction, Inc.
He was an avid square and round dancer with both the Allemand Eights and the Queen City Promenaders. He was a past president and member of the board of directors of the Square Dance Foundation of New England. He was also a founding member of the Charlie and Bertha Baldwin Library/Museum. In 1997, he and his wife received the Yankee Clipper Award for their contribution to square dancing in New England.
Since retirement, Arthur and his wife traveled extensively around the world.
Family members include his wife of 63 years Marjorie (Stillings) Dugas of Manchester; two sons, Gary Dugas and wife Ida of Kennebunk, ME, Glenn Dugas and wife Barbara of Bow, NH; two daughters, Gayle Alberico and husband Jerry of Dedham, MA, Lisa Sargent and husband Scott of Effingham, NH; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Roger Dugas of Portsmouth, Ernest Dugas of Bedford, Robert Dugas and wife Violet of FL; many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Armand Dugas and sister Rita Fenton.
The funeral service was held on Friday, February 7, 2014 in the chapel at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St, Manchester. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Berwick, ME in the spring.
