Frank E. Ewing Sr., 89, of Noank passed away peacefully at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. His devoted wife of 66 years, along with his family were at his side throughout his final days and moments.
He was born January 20, 1925 in Danville, Ill the son of Floyd Ewing and Mary Ingram Ewing.
Mr. Ewing served as an Army Medical Aidman in World War II where he also became proficient in the technique of off-road driving. He later went on to a 28-year career at Pfizer Inc. in Groton.
Frank was a lifetime member of the Eastern Point Volunteer Fire Dept. where he served as a first lieutenant and chief engineer. He was also a member of the Fire Police Association of Connecticut. An avid motor sports enthusiast all his life he loved to watch NASCAR racing on TV in the later years of his life.
Over these years Frank was a generous supportive husband and involved parent, spending countless hours with his children’s interests.
In addition to his wife Lillian he is survived by his son Frank E. Ewing Jr., daughter-in-law Susan E. Ewing of Noank, daughter Linda Kravet, son-in-law Ed Kravet of Orange, CT, brother William Ewing of Waukegan Ill, four grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 7, at 10am at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69 Groton Long Point Road, Groton, followed by his burial at Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association Memorial Dept., 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford CT 06492.
