Barbara Y. Ross, 90, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Monday, February 3, 2014, at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla, with the Rev. John Gibbs, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Brushy Creek Cemetery in Irwin County. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Ocilla from 12:30 PM until the funeral hour on Wednesday.
Mrs. Ross was born March 4, 1923, in Wray, Georgia, to the late Onnie and Dora Richardson Youghn. She lived in the community all of her life. Mrs. Ross loved flowers, working in her yards and raising animals. Her joy was that of being a wife, mother, grandmother and a great-grandmother and she was well known for her cooking. She was a member of Satilla Baptist Church in Irwin County.
She is survived by her children: Barbara J. and Jim Paulk of Valdosta, Jimmy & Vivian Ross of Ocilla, and Anniece R. Lee of Ocilla; six grandchildren: Michele Stone of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Mindy Johnson of Tifton, Dr. Jami Lee of Midway, Bryon Ross of Ocilla, Jai Ammons of Ocilla and Cynthia James of Fitzgerald; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings: Lora Harper of Ocilla, Naomi Harper of Fitzgerald, Eugene & Alice Youghn of Ocilla, Doc Youghn of Ocilla and Effie Purvis of Tifton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Fred A. Ross and a son-in-law: James R. “Jimmy” Lee.
