Obituary

CHICOPEE – Irene B. (Noiseux) Joyal, 92, a longtime resident of Jefferson Avenue in the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Friday, January 31, 2014. She passed into Eternal Life at Westerly Hospital in Westerly, Rhode Island surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Holyoke on December 29, 1921, a beloved daughter of the late Alphonse and Blanche (Barre) Noiseux. She was raised in Holyoke, graduated from Holyoke High School and lived in Holyoke for many years before moving to the Aldenville section of Chicopee around 1952. Irene was employed for many years in the office at the Monsanto Credit Union. During her leisure time, Irene was a longtime volunteer at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield where she spent many hours comforting critically ill newborn babies. Most of all, Irene was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. Active in her faith, she was a longtime communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Clement P. Joyal who was Called Home on April 7, 2000. They were married on January 29, 1944 at the former Precious Blood Church in Holyoke and were blessed with over 56 years of happiness together. Besides her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by her dear sisters, Rita Koch and Lillian Boisselle; and her step-brother, Buddy Langlois. She leaves her three devoted children, Robert P. Joyal and his wife, Lori, of Charlestown, RI, Nancy B. Opalanko and her husband, Richard, of Trumbull, CT, and Dorothy J. Bennis and her husband, Robert, of Chicopee; her eight cherished grandchildren, Michelle Florence and her husband, William, Kimberly Martins and her husband, Luis, Jacqueline Joyal, Stephen Opalanko and his wife, Sarah, Wendy Hultmark and her husband, Eric, Cheryl Wilcox and her husband, Robert, Mark Sanuita and his wife, Stacy, and Jodie Moore and her husband, Daniel; her 19 cherished great-grandchildren, Joshua and Nathan; Adelina, Connor, and Cody; Gabriella, Chloe, and Ozzie; Matthew, Joseph, Sarah, Rachel, Hannah, and Mary; Kayla and Dylan; and Abigail, Patrick and Edward; her dear sisters, Sister Jeannette Noiseux, SSA of the Sisters of Sainte Anne of Marlborough, MA and Loretta Morton of Holyoke; her dear step-brothers, Donald Langlois and his wife, Lillian, of Northampton and Leon Langlois and his wife, Flo, of Enfield, CT; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Joyal and Noiseux families. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, February 4, 2014 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. before the Mass. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
