William J. "Bill" Hanley Jr., owner of Hanley Electric, entered into eternal life on Friday, January 31, 2014 at Derham Hospice House in Cambridge following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 76 years old.
Bill was born in Boston on July 4, 1937, a son of the late William J. Hanley and Margaret G. (Little) Hanley. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School. Bill worked along side his father at a young age in the family electrical business before becoming a licensed electrician himself and becoming owner of Hanley Electric of Charlestown. Bill dedicated his life to helping those in need with any electrical problems in Charlestown and the surrounding communities.He was a member of the Halligan Club of Charlestown and enjoyed traveling to Cape Cod and listening to Irish music.
Bill is the beloved husband of 14 years to Shirley H. (Florentino-Doherty) Hanley. He is the devoted father of William M. Hanley and his wife Patricia of Medford, Paul E. Hanley and his wife Diana of Tewksbury, Denise A. Burnham and her husband Michael of Pembroke, Deborah Fiorillo and her husband Robert of Middleton, Joseph Doherty and his wife Kathy of Charlestown and Philip Doherty and his wife Julie of Mansfield. He is the loving Gramps to Paul, Kaitlin, Lauren, Brooke, Zachary, Caelene and loving Uncle Bill to Meaghan, Nolan, Jolie, Mikayla, Alexa, Molly, Quinn and Colin.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bill's Funeral on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Visiting hours will be on Monday, February 3, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
